What this scanner does

Upload a photo of a Pokémon TCG or Magic: The Gathering card and the scanner reads the artwork, name, and layout to work out what you're holding, then returns an estimated value range. It's the quickest way to find out whether a card is worth ten cents or a few hundred dollars without knowing a thing about sets or rarity symbols.

The web scanner gives you a value band. Pinning down an exact price needs the specific printing — first edition versus unlimited, holo versus reverse holo, which set symbol — and that identification happens in the app, which then pulls the live TCGplayer and Cardmarket price for that exact card.

How to get a good scan

• Fill the frame. The whole card, edge to edge, nothing cropped off.
• Shoot straight on. Angled photos distort the art and the name.
• Watch the glare. Holo and foil cards bounce light — tilt away from your lamp.
• One card at a time. A photo of a full binder page can't be priced.

What actually drives a card's value

Two copies of the same card can be worth wildly different amounts. The things that move the number most:

• Printing and edition. A 1st Edition Base Set card and its Unlimited reprint share art and name, and almost nothing else in price.
• Rarity and treatment. Holo, reverse holo, full art, alternate art, and secret rares all price separately.
• Condition. The gap between Near Mint and Moderately Played is often more than half the value.
• Current demand. Tournament results and set rotation move Magic prices; nostalgia and reprints move Pokémon.

Which cards can it scan?

Pokémon TCG and Magic: The Gathering cards. It does not scan Yu-Gi-Oh!, sports cards, or other trading card games.

Why does it show a range instead of one price?

From a photo alone, the scanner can identify the card but not always the exact printing or condition — and those two things drive most of the price difference. The range reflects that uncertainty honestly. The app narrows it to a single live market price once the exact printing is identified.

Is the estimate an appraisal?

No. It is a market estimate for guidance only, not a guaranteed sale price and not a formal appraisal.
